Thought Leader Academy vs. Our In-Person Retreat: Which One Is Right for You

You may be wondering: “What’s the difference between Thought Leader Academy and the retreat? And which one do I need?”

Fair question. So let me walk you through it.

I like to think about it like music. First you write the song. Then get up to perform it, and ideally get it on video so the people who weren’t in the room can see what they missed.

Thought Leader Academy is where you write the song (the talk) and learn how to get booked and paid for it. The in-person retreat is where you practice it, perform it, and shoot the video.

Thought Leader Academy (TLA)

You have the expertise, you some stories, and you have a bunch of ideas swirling around, but no signature talk. Or you have a presentation you’ve been giving, but you feel like it’s missing something or it’s not getting you the results you want.

Thought Leader Academy is our online program with a structured curriculum and a small cohort of 8 women where you identify your thought leadership message, create your talk, and build your speaker platform.

We work with you one-on-one in a VIP Day to create your signature talk. You’ll also be on weekly group calls where we get into the business side of speaking.

By the end, you’ll have your signature talk and your speaker materials for pitching and outreach. You’ll also get a custom speaking pipeline report with speaking opportunities based on your topic and audiences. In other words, you’ll have a talk and places to give it.

The In-Person Retreat

You can read every book and listen to every podcast on public speaking, but you won’t get better until you get up and actually do it (and practicing in the shower or in the car will only get you so far).

For 3 days, we work on developing and practicing your signature stage segments, and we coach you on how you’re delivering them, so you learn how to use the stage, move your body, and vary your voice to truly engage your audience and become memorable.

And then comes the fun part: professional videographers film you on stage. You get the edited footage and a speaker reel you can send to event organizers and put on your website.

Plus there are prep calls before the retreat, a one-on-one coaching session, and a follow-up group call afterward. That way you don’t lose steam once you’re home and buried in your inbox again.

So which one should you do?

They go together really well. A lot of our TLA grads come to the retreat after they finish. They’ve built their talk, and now they want more practice, more feedback, and a professional video of it.

  • If you don’t have a signature talk yet, start with TLA.
  • If you already have a talk and want to get better at delivering it (and get it on camera!), come to the retreat.
  • If you want both… do both!

The best thing to do is schedule a no-pressure consultation call with us.

Remember: You are the messenger your audience is waiting for. Let’s get you ready for them.
