A shortage of women speakers?

A shortage of women speakers?

I was surprised while I was listening to a podcast the other day when the hosts, who also run a pretty large marketing conference, said that 70-80% of the speaker submissions they receive are from men.

They want to have an equitable lineup of men and women speakers, and they came pretty close at their most recent conference.

But, they need more women to apply.

This means you.

Don’t wait to be asked.

Don’t wait for a special invitation.

Don’t wait until your presentation is perfect (it never will be until you start giving it!).

Here’s what you can do now:

→ Let people know you’re interested in speaking opportunities and ask if they can refer you.

→ Network with other speakers (you can start by joining my free Facebook group).

→ Attend conferences and events you want to speak at and get to know the organizers and other speakers.

→ Submit your speaking proposals.

There are opportunities out there. Conferences, organizations, associations, and companies are looking for good women speakers on a variety of topics.

Speaking of podcasts and masterminds, check out my conversation on The Strong Women’s Club podcast with host Edie Berg (who I’m in a mastermind with right now and who has an amazing background, including as a personal chef to the late Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres).

On the podcast, we talk about how to get on bigger stages and we also dive into women in politics, including the current election. Enjoy!
