Stepping Stones to Get You to a Keynote or TEDx Stage

Stepping stones to get you to a Keynote or TEDx stage

If you’re reading this, I know you’re interested in upleveling your speaking.

You imagine yourself as the keynote speaker at an important conference in your industry or you’re standing on a stage giving a TEDx talk that blows the audience away.

I know you’re fully capable of doing this.

But, here’s the thing: to get to that destination, you can’t jump from here to there – the gulf is too wide.

You need stepping stones along the way to get you there – to establish yourself as a leader in your field and to build your network.

When someone in your industry says to themselves or asks someone, “Who can we have talk to our group about X?”, you want them to think of and come to you.

For that to happen, you need more people to know what you do and you need validation and credibility from other sources (these could be influencers, industry associations, community leaders, and the media).

Here are stepping stones you can use:

  • Speak to groups in your local community
  • Get interviewed on podcasts
  • Host your own podcast
  • Write a book
  • Get published on well-known sites and blogs
  • Become a go-to expert for your local media
  • Serve on the board of an organization

You don’t have to do all of these – and certainly not all of them at once!

Select the ones that make the most sense for you and your business in the stage you’re in right now.

But, don’t keep putting off making the leap to that first stepping stone or to the next one (sometimes we get stuck on one for too long).

Event organizers (and prospective clients) want to see that you have a successful track record of sharing your expertise.

The longer you wait, the longer it will take to get to that keynote or TEDx.
