Are you a chameleon or a peacock?

Chameleon vs. Peacock

Chameleons seem pretty cool. They’re brightly colored, adaptable, able to go with the flow and fit in regardless of the environment.

I identify a lot with being a chameleon: I can jump from group to group and converse on any number of topics, from code and artificial intelligence to history and politics to business and marketing. There’s nothing inherently wrong with this: it’s a useful skill to be able to find common ground.

But, you know what words show up in the dictionary next to the word chameleon?

Pretender, phony, fake, inconsistent.

Yikes. Definitely not something I (or you) want to be.

If your business and brand is a chameleon, it’s not standing out.

What it’s really doing is subsuming itself to make sure everyone else is comfortable.

Why is this a problem? Because it’s preventing you from being seen in a crowded marketplace. And, ultimately, when you’re busy trying to meet everyone else’s expectations, it’s personally exhausting and unfulfilling.

So, what should you be instead?

A peacock! (Or, in the case of females, a peahen, but that sounds weird, so I’m sticking with peacock.)

Our initial thought might be, I don’t want to come across as arrogant or flashy or loud.

But, instead, let’s think of peacocks as confident and self-assured. Taking up space and being visible.

That’s what I want for you and your business.

One of the best ways to do this is to have a signature talk that reflects your values, expertise, and methodology.

And then getting out there and presenting at groups, associations, companies, and conferences.

Here’s where my online group program comes in to help you do exactly this:

→ You’ll identify what makes you a peacock: your core message (not your slogan or tagline). This is the foundation for your entire business.

→ You’ll define your unique formula that sets you apart from others and becomes the basis for your signature talk: Your values + Your expertise/methodology = The results you get for your customers

→ You’ll learn the key differences between a business presentation, keynote, workshop, and TEDx talk – and how to create each of these.

→ You’ll structure your signature talk using my presentation framework, including the hero’s journey for your audience, your key stories, and audience interaction, to make it not just informative, but memorable and engaging.

→ You’ll practice delivering your talk, with personal feedback from me.

→ You’ll be ready to submit speaking proposals that stand out and find speaking opportunities (both paid and unpaid).

→ And more

I look forward to receiving your application!

P.S. I had some questions about the group program, so here’s a bit more detail:

Q: What will I end up with at the end of the 3 months?

A: My goal is for you to have a completed presentation, whether it’s a business presentation, a keynote, a workshop, or a TEDx talk. But, with my extensive business and marketing background, you’ll end up getting more than a signature talk – my approach encompasses a way of framing your business and what you do and who you do it for, so you’re much more targeted and focused with your messaging on finding those ideal clients and audiences.

Q: Is this a course? I’m tired of buying courses I never finish.

A: No (and me too!). This is not a hands-off, DIY course. It’s an intimate and personal experience for 6-8 women with business and professional backgrounds to help each other with insights and ideas and to stay focused and accountable on creating your best signature talk. The program includes live group Q&A calls, private membership site with training materials and resources, discussion boards to ask questions of me and the other women in the group, and my personal review of your script/slides and practice audio/video.

Q: When will you offer this program again? Does it launch every 3 months?

A: I will most likely not do the group program in the summer because it tends not to be a good time for people (kids out of school, vacations). So, if I decide to do another one, it won’t be until September.

Q: Will the price be the same?

A: The price will be higher in the future. The reason it’s only $1,800 is because that was the cost of my signature talk coaching package, so for people who had been wanting to work with me and had put that into their budget, I wanted to honor that amount and keep it the same.

Q: Is there a payment plan?

A: Yes, you can select to pay $650/month for 3 months.
