The Medium is the Message

As entrepreneurs, speakers, and content creators, how can we make the most of the platforms / the mediums we choose to focus on, whether it’s podcasting, video, TV, social media, writing, or public speaking?

Each medium/platform wants different things, so what works on what medium doesn’t usually work as well on another.

The phrase "the medium is the message" is from media theorist Marshall McLuhan and books he wrote in the 1950s and 60s. McLuhan analyzed technologies (mediums) like the printing press, electric light, radio, and television and saw that it was the medium itself, not the particular content, that affected and changed society and human behavior. It was the medium that dictated how people interacted with it.

I'm applying this idea to the mediums/platforms we use as entrepreneurs and content creators so we can use them effectively to achieve our goals.

Hi, I’m Carol Cox, founder of Speaking Your Brand®.

I believe that as high-performing women we change the paradigm, the perception of ambitious women, by more of us actively and visibly pursuing bigger, audacious goals, raising our voices and sharing our stories about what really matters – on stages, in boardrooms, in our businesses, in the media – so others can learn from our journeys, see themselves in ours, and become leaders in their own companies and communities.

I started Speaking Your Brand® to provide the coaching, strategy, support, and confidence you need to take your story and your craft and turn it into a signature talk that provides immense value to your audience and to your business.
